The Detroit Red Wings have experienced an up-and-down season thus far, but they have officially reached a new low, as Ted Kuflan of The Detroit News revealed that goalie Jimmy Howard will miss two to four weeks with a sprained MCL.

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reported that Howard suffered the injury while practicing on Dec. 11.
"Howie tweaked a knee," general manager Ken Holland said. "He's going for tests. We don't know how serious it is. Obviously, he can't play, so we called up [Petr] Mrazek."
Detroit currently holds the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with 39 points, but keeping that position or even moving up will be difficult without Howard.
With that said, Howard hasn't had a typically great season. His 2.65 goals-against average and .910 save percentage are his worst since 2010-11, and his 6-8-7 record is subpar as well.
