New York Islanders forward John Tavares tied an NHL All-Star Game record with his four goals in Sunday's 17-12 victory for Team Toews over Team Foligno, per ESPN Stats & Info.
In a game that featured 29 goals on 92 shots, Tavares was one of eight players to score multiple goals and one of just six skaters (out of 35) to finish without an assist.
He found twine once during the first period and once in the third, with a pair of goals during a second period that featured 11 between both teams.
Despite tying an All-Star Game record held by five other players, Tavares did not earn MVP honors, which instead went to Columbus Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen, who tallied two goals and two assists for Nick Foligno's team.
Johansen likely got a boost in the Twitter-based fan voting due to the fact that his Blue Jackets were the hosts.
While Johansen and Tavares both made decent arguments for the award, Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek was actually the game's leading scorer, with three points and three assists for Jonathan Toews' team.
