Ilya Kovalchuk: What Would The 2010-11 Thrashers Be Like With Kovalchuk?

There is no argument that the Atlanta Thrashers have significantly improved the overall depth of the team to start the 2010-11 season.

Just a few months ago at the conclusion of the 2009-10 season there was a large amount of pessimism surrounding the future of the team.

It seemed everyone was dissin” the Atlanta Thrashers despite the fact that the team just missed the playoffs by only a few games.

A large amount of the detractors were disappointed because the team was unable to resign superstar forward Ilya Kovalchuk to a new long term contract.

Attendance fell below 15,000 during the last cluster of home games at Phillips Arena.

In retrospect, retaining Kovalchuk would have placed the Thrashers in a financial tailspin that would not have necessarily landed them in the playoffs and ultimately may have cost ...
