Last week, the New Jersey Devils signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17-year contract worth $102 million. A day later, the NHL rejected the contract, saying that it did not comply with the NHL’s salary cap. Kovalchuk has expressed his desire to play with New Jersey for the remainder of his career, so it’s likely that the Devils would try to re-negotiate a new contract with him.
