The 2016 NHL draft is just over one month away—June 24 and 25 in Buffalo—and the excitement is growing. What looked like a slam dunk at the top of the draft appears to have turned into a two-player race. American power center Auston Matthews and Finnish winger Patrik Laine have now emerged as the best options in the draft.
The draft lottery rewarded the Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets, while offering setbacks to the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. The new slotting of teams may offer more opportunities for trades, and that could blow the top of the 2016 draft wide-open in June.
This is not a mock draft and is not meant to predict the draft order in any way. This is an exercise in finding a perfect fit for each team and player inside the top 10 overall.
