Homer Hurting: Detroit Red Wings Lose Tomas Holmstrom for a Month

January 7th, 2010 by Matt Hutter Leave a reply »
In what has become painfully routine this season, the Detroit Red Wings have announced that leading goal scorer Tomas Holmstrom will be out of the lineup for approximately one month.

Holmstrom was practicing deflections on Wednesday at the end of the team's practice when he was struck by puck in the left foot, resulting in a non-displaced fracture.

Holmstrom is no stranger to injuries.  He's been hampered by numerous injuries for the better part of the last two seasons, but to this point, he had played each game for Detroit this season.

Through 42 games, Holmstrom has amassed 12 goals, nine points and a plus-four rating.

Though forwards Henrik Zetterberg and Daniel Cleary are both returning from injuries on Thursday, Holmstrom's injury adds his name to a still lengthy list of injured Red Wings that includes Jason Williams, Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson, Johan Franzen and Andreas Lilja.

Detroit's 138 man-games lost to injury already tops the NHL this season.
