Henrik Sedin Injury: Updates on Vancouver Canucks Star’s Ribs and Return

Vancouver Canucks star Henrik Sedin has been just about indestructible during his NHL career, but he will miss his team's next game against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to bruised ribs.

TSN.ca reports on Monday, Jan. 20, that Sedin will be out of action at Rexall Place, ending the 33-year-old center's streak of consecutive games played at 679, which is the sixth-longest mark in NHL history.  

Assistant coach Mike Sullivan confirmed the news in a Monday press conference:



Sedin leads Vancouver with 31 assists and 40 points in the 2013-14 campaign, and the good news is that the Canucks should fare fine without him in this contest. Entering Monday's slate of games, only the Buffalo Sabres had fewer points (33) than Edmonton (36).

This marks Sedin's 13th season as a pro, and he has spent his entire career in Vancouver since being selected No. 3 overall by the club in the 1999 draft.
