It seems hard to believe that a team that made it's way to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2009-10 season needs a lot of re-tooling, but there are certainly a few things the Montreal Canadiens need before the 2010-11 NHL season gets under way this October. Changes have already begun and Playoff Hero, Jaroslav Halak has been moved to the St. Louis Blues for two prospects Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. Tomas Plekanec recently removed his name from the UFA list and re-signed with the Habs for six years and $30M. Throw in that "no trade clause" and Tomas is ready to go. Pierre Gauthier prepares for his first draft as Habs GM and by all accounts has been busy over the last 72 hours. With only $9 million left in the kitty, Gauthier will need to be creative, as a few notable players are still awaiting contracts: Carey Price, Benoit Pouliot, and Maxim Lapierre.
