Evgeni Malkin Injury: Updates on Penguins Star’s Lower Body and Return

In what has become a disturbing trend for the Pittsburgh Penguins in recent years, star forward Evgeni Malkin is once again set to miss time after suffering a lower-body injury in practice on Feb. 3.

Sullivan Comments on Malkin's Playing Status Tuesday, Feb. 9 Head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters Malkin "will be out for this week and will work with the [Penguins] training and medical staff."

"Right now, Geno is in the process of rehabbing," Sullivan said.

Injury-Prone Malkin Key to Penguins Attack Malkin, when healthy, is Pittsburgh's most dangerous goalscorer and, alongside Sidney Crosby, is an offensive force for opposing teams to deal with on a nightly basis. Without him in the lineup, Pittsburgh's offense simply loses a lot of bite.

When he's on the ice, Malkin is as dangerous an offensive weapon as there is in the NHL, as he notched 28 goals and 42 assists in just 69 games last season. In the four seasons he's played 75 or more games, he's tallied at least 30 goals and 85 overall points, going over 100 points in three of those campaigns.
