The NHL's Christmas trade freeze goes into effect from midnight on Dec. 19 to midnight on Dec. 27. That leaves limited time for general managers shopping around for deals to address their roster issues. Compounding the difficulty is a trade market currently lacking depth in available talent.
Each team has specific needs to be addressed. Several clubs seek scoring depth, some want defensive help and others require a goaltending upgrade. Some could pursue a player to boost a sagging power play, while another could require a penalty-killing specialist.
