The Edmonton Oilers have locked up 20-year-old centre Sam Gagner this evening signing him to a 2 year deal worth $4.55 Million.  Gagner was a restricted free agent as of July 1st.

Gagner had a rough season, as did the rest of the Oilers brass, recording 15 goals and 26 assists for the club. It was a disappointing season for Gagner after a very promising rookie campaign as an 18 year-old two years earlier. He also fell out of favour with then head coach Pat Quinn and found himself either on the fourth line or in the press box.

However, with new head coach Tom Renney at the helm. Gagner will have a clean slate and will be looking to bounce back this season and hopefully help a very youthful Oilers organization regain some of the respect they lost in 2009-2010.nnGagner’s best years are still ahead of him, and the Oilers hope that with this deal they will be able to reap the benefits of such production.
