Does Sean Avery’s Arrest Give Mats Zuccarello a New York Rangers Roster Spot?

The New York Rangers have been on a youth movement, allowing multiple rookies to come up and see NHL competition firsthand. Mats Zuccarello is one of those upcoming Rangers battling for a potential roster spot.

Sean Avery's recent arrest might have bought him a demotion to the minors, thus leaving an open roster spot for opening night. The battle for a roster spot will be close, but one man stands above the rest.

Mats Zuccarello is leading the race for up-and-coming rookies. Zuccarello has registered six goals, 17 assists and 23 points in his 42 games with the New York Rangers.

He is what is becoming known as a shoot-out specialist. His quick hands have undressed multiple goaltenders around the league, and he has a quick backhand-to-forehand move that beats goalies in the shootout. 

This writer's personal opinion is that Mats will see more time than he did last year, and might be the next piece of the Rangers' growth process. He has shown he can play in NHL games and contribute.
