Dion Phaneuf To Be Named Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Next Week

According to Sources, Dion Phaneuf will be named the Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs next week when the club will unveil its new team uniforms.

I believe this move was an inevitability, since as soon as he got to Toronto, Phaneuf seemed to be the most vocal player around, but also the player who commanded a lot of respect.

Naming him captain not only finally gives the Leafs a player to lean on, but also gives the Leafs an identity since the loss of Mats Sundin.

With naming him the Captain of the team, this all but spells the end of veteran defence man Tomas Kaberle with the club and possibly even Francois Beauchemin. The team already has a TOP Four in mind with Phaneuf, Komisarek, Schenn and Gunnarsson, with the possibility of the bottom two being filled by Korbanian Holzer, Keith Aulie or Phil Oreskovic.

This move is just the start of things to come for the Toronto Maple Leafs it appears, so hold onto your seat belts Leafs fans and prepare for one heck of a ride.
