Did We Really Need Another One? Matt Lashoff a Leaf.

Brian Burke finally made a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately, it did not involve Tomas Kaberle or Ryan Malone.

The Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Matt Lashoff from the Lightning for prospects Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati.

No offense to Lashoff, but do we really need another defensemen?

Kaberle, Phaneuf, Schenn, Beauchemin, Komisarek, Lebda, Gunnarson, and Jeff Finger give us eight NHL quality defensemen. With prospects like Keith Aulie, Jessie Blacker, Juraj Mikus, and Korbinian Holzer waiting in the wings, one has to wonder, where does Lashoff fit?

In 68 games with the Norfolk Adimarals last season, Lashoff he scored eight goals and notched 16 assists for 24 points, also adding 105 penalty minutes.

In 63 NHL games with the Boston Bruins and the Lightning, he has totaled one goal and 15 assists for 16 points while adding 53 penalty minutes.

The only thing I can think of right now is that Lashoff will be packaged with either Beauchemin, Schenn, or if there happens to be a miracle, Kaberle for that long-awaited top six forward we've all been hearing about.

Or at least I hope so.
