Detroit Red Wings Sign Justin Abdelkader, Move Closer To Cap

As reported first to Bleacher Report by John Tabone, the Red Wings have signed Justin Abdelkader to a 2 year contract extension.

To add on to John's article, Abdelkader was signed to a $1.574 million contract with a cap hit of $787,000 per year.

This is great news for Red Wings fans as the Wings know that Abdelkader is a big part of their future plans, especially with a cap friendly hit.

But where does this leave the team when it comes to cap space?

According to capgeek.com, the Red Wings payroll, before the signing, had $862,123 remaining in cap space.

Signing Abdelkader has narrowed that margin to just $75,123.
