The Detroit Red Wings have become accustomed to dealing with injuries.
Kyle Quincey became the latest victim on Friday. He suffered a fractured cheekbone after being struck in the face by a puck in Detroit’s 3-2 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers.
According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Quincey will miss four-to-six weeks, and it will be determined next week whether or not he requires surgery.
Quincey sustained the injury with just over two minutes remaining in the third period of Friday’s game versus the Oilers. A wrist shot by Jordan Eberle hit Quincey’s stick and deflected up into his face. Quincey doesn't wear a visor, though the puck might still have hit him if he did because of the angle at which it was deflected.
The 27-year-old defenseman has not been a favourite among Red Wings fans this season because of his turnovers. However, it’s worth mentioning that four defensemen on the team have more giveaways than Quincey.
Ian White took Quincey’s spot in the lineup against the Vancouver Canucks Saturday, a game the Red Wings won 5-2.
