Hockeytown has been known as the home for the elderly.

Many old-time hockey players have come here to finish off careers, and most of them have had the opportunity to go out in style.

As Nicklas Lidstrom entered what should be his final year of his career, he is playing as if he is in his first year as a Detroit Red Wings defenceman.

But we have to be reminded that yes, he is 40 years old.

But just as when you thought a storied career is coming to an end, Lidstrom has done it again, etching his name in NHL record books.

On December 15, 2010 Lidstrom became the oldest player in NHL history to record a first NHL hat trick.

He also became the oldest defenceman to score a hat trick.

He is reaching numbers seen back in the middle of his NHL career when he was winning Norris Trophy after Norris Trophy and is on his way to setting a new mark of most points in a single season by a 40-plus-year-old player.

He is also leading the NHL for points by a defenceman with 42 points in 45 games.
