The two question on everybody's minds coming into this season about the Detroit Red Wings were as follows:

Are the Detroit Red Wings too old to compete for a Stanley Cup?

And:

How will Jimmy Howard fare in his sophomore season with Detroit?

The first question is a question to be answered another time, but for now, how about the second question?

Well, it is actually a very simple answer at this point in time. The dreaded "answer a question with a question."

What sophomore slump?

First off, let's take a minute and define the term "sophomore slump."

Sophomore slump is defined as an instance in which a second, or sophomore, effort fails to live up to the standards of the first effort.

So let's back track to last year.

Jimmy Howard went into the 2009-2010 season as the number two goalie for Detroit behind seasoned vet Chris Osgood.

Osgood failed to perform, and injuries hit the Red Wings thus gave Jimmy his chance to shine. 

After a brief struggle to find form, Howard came into his own.
