Detroit Red Wings: 3 Stars of the Week, March 11 Edition

As seems to be the norm for the Detroit Red Wings this season, they completed another up and down week. They started off the week with a good win over the Colorado Avalanche then shut out the Edmonton Oilers.

The week ended with disappointing back-to-back losses to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In the first loss they were shutout, but in the second loss, they were at least able to manage to earn one point for the shootout loss.

They have 29 points which has them holding onto the fourth spot in the Western Conference. As tight as the conference is that only puts them two points above ninth place.

Here are the three stars of week.

Jimmy Howard

Jimmy Howard had a shutout win against the Oilers and was less 90 seconds away from one against the Avalanche. The Avalanche game was very impressive as he stopped 36 of the 37 shots that he faced. The shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets spoiled what could have been three straight wins for him. (Jonas Gustavsson started one game this week)

Over the week he had a 1.0 GAA and a .962 save percentage.
