Dave Cameron Dismissed by Senators: Latest Comments and Reaction

After just two seasons as head coach of the Ottawa Senators, Dave Cameron was relieved of his duties Tuesday. 

The team announced that assistants Andre Tourigny, Rick Wamsley and Jason Smith were also dismissed, although Smith has been offered another position within the organization.

Cameron posted a record of 70-50-17 during his tenure with the Sens. After leading the team to a playoff berth in 2014-15 by virtue of a remarkable late-season run, Ottawa finished a disappointing 11th in the Eastern Conference this season.

The decision to fire Cameron was handed down by new general manager Pierre Dorion, who was promoted from his role as assistant GM on Sunday after Bryan Murray moved into a senior advisory role, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com).

As pointed out by Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, Cameron is the latest example of the Senators having a short leash with their head coaches:



It is unclear who Ottawa has lined up for its next head coach, but whoever takes the job will inherit a talented team.
