On the brink of the semifinals of the men's ice hockey tournament at the Sochi Olympics, NHL teams are in the midst of preparations to resume action following a break in the league's schedule that began on Feb. 9.
Among the players with NHL milestones in sight is Daniel Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks, who is currently representing Team Sweden at the Olympics. The Swedes take on Finland in a semifinal match Friday, with the winner of that contest in line to play for gold against the victor of the USA/Canada tilt to be held later that day.
Sedin, a 33-year-old native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, made his NHL debut during the 2000-2001 season after being made the Canucks' top pick, No. 2 overall, in the 1999 NHL entry draft. His identical twin brother, Henrik, went to Vancouver with the very next selection.
The duo have remained teammates and productive linemates since then, though Henrik Sedin was forced to sit out the ongoing Olympics due to a rib injury.
