Monday night's game between the Phoenix Coyotes and the Buffalo Sabres may have had the most bizarre finish to a game in NHL history.
With the game tied at 1-1 in overtime, Phoenix goalie Mike Smith was put in an odd situation. The puck went into the air, and he had no idea where it was.
The puck landed in the back of his pants without him knowing. Smith slid into the goal as he was looking for it and trying to protect the net at the same time. The game ended as he crossed the line with the puck in his pants.
Buffalo's Mark Pysyk was credited with his first goal of the season on the play, and the Sabres pulled out a 2-1 victory. The Coyotes at least got a point out of the result, but this was a tough way to lose.
