Columbus Blue Jackets Combine to Score NHL’s Wackiest Goal of the Year

November 16th, 2013 by Kyle Newport Leave a reply »

The Columbus Blue Jackets have struggled to win games this season, but they caught a huge break when they scored the wackiest goal of the season against the Montreal Canadiens Friday night.

Check out the wild play:

First, Nikita Nikitin somehow couldn't get a shot off and fell to the ice. At the same time that Nikitin's goof happened, Canadiens defender Douglas Murray knocked Blue Jackets enforcer Jared Boll into goalie Peter Budaj, which also knocked the goalie down.

Blue Jackets center Artem Anisimov got the puck, and his shot was deflected into the air. When the puck came down in the crease, Boll was still down on the ice and Budaj had no idea where it was. Anisimov got credit for his fifth goal of the season despite all of the blunders on the play.

It gave the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead in the first period. Columbus would take a 2-0 lead later in the period before falling 3-2 in a shootout.
