After breaking his left index finger in only the first week of training camp, Chris Drury was unfortunately sidelined for the first two games of the season.
This Friday as the New York Rangers face-off against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Drury is likely to start as the top line center. For the first time since his injury, Drury practiced at MSG on Wednesday and later reported that he felt 100 percent fine.
Regardless of what he says, the coaching staff has required him to now wear a special glove that has numerous compartments for extra padding and protection.
Last season the Rangers scored a mere 222 goals (tied for 19th in the league) and Drury had only 14 of those 222. As the Rangers attempt to continue the season with high scoring games, Drury will be a key offensive player that will in many cases set the tone for the game.
Drury will be centering Marian Gaborik and Alexander Frolov on Friday, both of whom have high-scoring potential. In addition to scoring, the Rangers must not forget about their All-Star goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who so far has given up eight goals in two games.
