In Tuesday's Chicago Tribune , Chris Kuc reports a source close to the Chicago Blackhawks says the Hawks could announce new contracts with Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith as early as today .
The news that Toews and Kane were close to extensions is nothing new, but the addition of Keith to the mix is fantastic news. Kuc doesn't report anything regarding years of dollars, but does mention that salary trimming will need to take place for the three to fit under the cap moving forward.
Thursday is Kane's 21st birthday, while Keith is 26 and Toews is a 21-year old Captain.
Next summer, the following Blackhawks will be free agents: Niklas Hjalmarsson, Andrew Ladd, Ben Eager, John Madden, Colin Fraser, Antti Niemi, and Adam Burish.
For more on this story, with rumors about dollars and years for the three contracts, please see the update from early Tuesday evening.
