Ryan McDonagh scored the game-winning goal at the 9:57 mark of overtime on Friday night to lift the New York Rangers to an improbable 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers win forces the series back to Washington for Game 6 Sunday night.

The Capitals lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal 3-2.

Holtby stopped 41 of the 43 shots he faced.
