Capitals Seem Content With Current Goalies

Semyon Varlamov has supplanted Jose Theodore in the playoffs two straight years now, and Michael Neuvirth has won back-to-back Calder Cups and won the MVP of this year’s AHL playoffs.
But what really shows their trust in the two youngsters is the lack of offseason movement as far as defensmen and other goaltenders are concerned. After Evgeni Nabokov was released by the San Jose Sharks, he was considered the top free agent goalie on the market.
The Capitals didn’t move at all, though Nabokov’s heavy asking price was probably more of a factor than trust in Neuvirth and Varlamov. Nabokov then decided to pack up and head back to the motherland to join the KHL.
Another top free agent was Marty Turco, whom the Caps opted to pass on as well. He was picked up by Chicago.
Right now, Stanley Cup Champion Antti Niemi is still on the market after being replaced by a much cheaper Marty Turco. I’m shocked he is still on the market. While there is still time to pick him up, the lack of the Caps moveme ...
