Burkie’s Beliefs: Tomas Kaberle Most Likely a Leaf

UPDATE: It's midnight ET. Burkie's deadline is up, unless there is a trade making its way to the NHL office.

Brian Burke may have just put all of our hopes to rest.

According to Hockeybuzz writer Ken Beckett, Burke believes Kaberle will probably still be a Leaf at midnight.

The Leafs had a deal in place that would see gritty forward Ryan Malone along with a pick and/or prospect. Apparently, that deal is falling through, most likely because of Malone's no movement clause. 

Burke has noted from the beginning that if he can't get what he wants for Tomas Kaberle, he will keep him. Easy as that.

Many Leaf fans had their hopes up about acquiring a top-six forward for Kaberle.

One aspect that has yet to be explored is trading Kaberle after August 14. Just because he has a no trade clause in place doesn't mean Burke can't necessarily trade him.

If Burke can convince Kabby to waive his NTC, then the trade talks can begin again. Personally, I'd love to see this Malone trade revived after today.
