Brian Burke Fielding Offers for Tomas Kaberle

Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, appeared on the FAN 590 radio station in Toronto Friday morning. He spoke about a number of topics, including the latest on the Tomas Kaberle sweepstakes, the Ilya Kovalchuk contract and Leafs prospect Jerry D'Amigo deciding to leave college in order to turn pro.

Perhaps the most intriguing news is that the Leafs have " received a significant number of offers" for Kaberle. The offers apparently include either "a forward with size and scoring ability" or a package including a high draft pick and quality young player.

The initial feeling around the hockey community was that Burke would only accept an offer that would significantly improve the Leafs in the short-term, although Burke appears to have softened his stance on the possibility of acquiring future assets.

While Brian Burke hasn't " received an offer yet worth acting on", he understands that teams won't show their best cards until closer to the deadline.

There are reportedly ten teams who have either expressed interest in Kaberle and/or tabled an offer for the veteran defense man. ...
