Brent Seabrook, Blackhawks Agree to New Contract: Latest Details and Reaction

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Saturday that they and defenseman Brent Seabrook have agreed to an eight-year contract extension that will keep him in the Windy City until the end of the 2023-24 season. 

Per Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman, Seabrook is set to earn an average of $6.85 million per year, which would equate to a total of $54.8 million. ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun also provided contractual insight:



Seabrook and the Blackhawks had been working toward a new deal for a while, with reports of them nearing an agreement surfacing as early as Sept. 17, per the Chicago Tribune's Chris Kuc. 

In an offseason of uncertainty and change after winning their third Stanley Cup in six seasons, bringing back the veteran Seabrook, who has been a part of each championship team, is a welcome sight for Blackhawks fans.

In the past two months, salary-cap issues forced the Blackhawks to part ways with the likes of Patrick Sharp, Brandon Saad and Johnny Oduya, key players during their run to the Cup.
