On Thursday night, the Boston Bruins defeated a rather inspired Columbus Blue Jackets team that has suddenly plummeted into the basement of the dreadful Metropolitan Division. The Jackets need to earn as many points as possible given their current position. Boston seems to have found their way in their past four games, which bodes well for them earning a seventh consecutive playoff berth.

Boston is trailing only the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division (a team they've defeated three times already this season).

Columbus, perhaps not fitting the description of a cellar-dwelling squad, will need to continue to press the issue to move up the standings, something that is easily obtainable given the mediocrity of the Metropolitan Division.

The talk surrounding this matchup seemed to gain steam around noon when the confirmation was made that backup goaltender Chad Johnson would get the nod for Boston.



With reigning Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky opposing Johnson, the prevailing thought was the distinct edge went to Columbus.
