Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw suffered a lower-body injury against the Minnesota Wild during the first period Friday and did not return to Game 1 of their Western Conference second-round series. The Blackhawks won the game, 5-2.

The defending Stanley Cup champions’ next step toward defending their title got a bit more difficult Friday night. The Chicago Blackhawks' official Twitter page updated fans on the status of center Andrew Shaw:





The Blackhawks held a 1-0 lead over the Minnesota Wild in Game 1 of their second-round series in the NHL playoffs when the announcement was made.

Shaw’s absence will certainly be felt because he is coming off of an impressive third period in Chicago’s first-round closeout game against the St. Louis Blues. Shaw scored a goal and registered an assist in the final 20 minutes and helped lead his team to a 5-1 victory in Game 6. ...
