Alexander Semin Signs Contract Extension with Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals have announced that they have signed Alexander Semin to a one-year contract extension. As per team policy, Capitals general manager George McPhee did not disclose the financial details of the agreement.

NHL.com, citing a source close to the deal, claims that it is worth $6.7 million. Semin is currently playing out a one-year deal that he signed with the Capitals last season. His current deal is worth $6 million. 

The 26-year-old Semin is in his sixth NHL season, all of which have been played in Washington DC. 

Semin is currently third in scoring for the Caps with 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists). In 366 career NHL games, Semin has scored 335 points (166 goals, 169 assists). 

His point totals, after only six seasons, already have him at 11th place in all-time Washington Capitals scoring.

Semin had a career year last season, scoring 40 goals and adding 44 assists for 84 points. 

Semin will become an unrestricted free agent when this newly inked extension comes to an end.
