Adam Foote Re-Signed by Colorado Avalance

The Denver Post is reporting that the Colorado Avalanche have re-signed captain Adam Foote to a one year contract. The contract will pay Foote a base salary of one million dollars, significantly less than the three million he averaged over the past two seasons.

Foote, 38, had a bounce back 2009-2010 campaign, increasing his games played (from 42 to 67) and his plus minus rating (from minus-12 to plus-8) from 2008-2009. His experience allowed him to mentor rookie defensemen Ryan Wilson and Kyle Cumiskey, and his leadership was key in the Avalanche returning to the playoffs one season after finishing last in the Western Conference.

Given that Foote will make a mere one million dollars, it's expected he'll take on a lesser role on the ice while once again mentoring any rookie defensemen that join the Avalanche in the 2010-2011 season.

The Avalanche still have three defensemen who played for them last season who are un-signed: Brett Clark, Ruslan Salei, and Kyle Quincey. Of the three, it's expected that only Quincey, a restricted free agent, will be resigned.
