A New Look NHL for 2011-12 or Beyond:  Panthers, Lightning, Hurricanes, Predators, Islanders, Avalanche and more Gone?

The NHL has been looking to expand to different markets or contract altogether.  However, based on the early season teams debuting overseas, there is a hint of the teams the NHL could be shopping in Europe.

Today, the NHL or National Hockey League looks like this below. 

NHL Atlantic New Jersey NY Islanders NY Rangers Philadelphia Pittsburgh NHL Central Chicago Columbus Detroit Nashville St Louis NHL Northeast Boston Buffalo Montreal Ottawa Toronto NHL Northwest Calgary Colorado Edmonton Minnesota Vancouver NHL Pacific Anaheim Dallas Los Angeles Phoenix San Jose NHL Southeast Atlanta Carolina Florida Tampa Bay Washington  

Afterwards, you could see a contracted formal NHL, which moves the lesser successful teams to Europe, perhaps based in part on poor attendance, according to ESPN:  http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance/_/year/2010.
