2015 NHL Free Agents: Predictions for Top Players Set to Hit Market

The NHL's 2015 free-agency period this summer got a little less exciting when top free-agents-to-be like Johnny Boychuk and Marc Staal signed contract extensions during the season. Still, there are a number of very intriguing options for teams looking to improve their squads through free agency.

Let's break them down.

 

Christian Ehrhoff, D, Pittsburgh Penguins



Some very nice defensemen will be available this summer, and Christian Ehrhoff tops the list. Even at 32, he's a reliable two-way player who moves the puck well and generally makes smart decisions for his team. His absence was felt in a big way for Pittsburgh late in the season, as the team really struggled without him.

After seeing the effect his absence has had on the team, the Penguins may be wishing they had signed him to an extension.
