2012 NHL Playoffs: New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers Game 5 Predictions

It will be hard for the Stanley Cup Finals, whichever two teams end up getting there (it was announced the Finals will start next Wednesday), to live up to this Eastern Conference Finals series between the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers.

These bitter rivals already despise each other and after four games the tempers seem to be getting shorter.

In New Jersey’s series-tying 4-1 victory in Game 4 on Monday, things got very chippy. Just seconds after crushing New Jersey defenseman Peter Harrold with a check in the third period, ex-Devil Mike Rupp hit goaltender Martin Brodeur in the chest, after the whistle, igniting a bit of a fracas between the two teams.

Rupp earned a double-minor roughing penalty and 10-minute misconduct, ruling him out for the remainder of the game, while Devils fourth-liner Ryan Carter was slapped with a two-minute roughing penalty and 10-minute misconduct.

The irony is that Rupp and Brodeur are friends.

Right after the Rupp hit, New York Coach John Tortorella and New Jersey’s Peter DeBoer were screaming at each other from their respective benches, separated only by a few feet.
