2011 NHL Playoffs: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Welcome to the live quick hits blog for the key matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Heading into tonight's game, many suspected that the Lightning (who have already clinched a playoff spot) would take their foot off the pedal a bit, which, in turn, may allow the Hurricanes to get that much needed win, catapulting them into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

It doesn't matter how they win, but if Carolina is to beat out the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot they will have to earn two points, somehow.

The Hurricanes are currently on an 8-1-1 run, but are just 2-3 against the Lightning thus far this season.

Cam Ward and Eric Staal will have to shine for the Hurricanes, otherwise, it could be lights out for Carolina.
