2010 NHL Draft Live: Detroit Looking To Get Speed, Size With 21st Pick

Assistant General Manager Jim Nill is hopeful the Detroit Red Wings' higher-than-usual 21st pick will yield a solid player, but he's also realistic.

"When you pick a little bit higher, it just gives you an opportunity to get a player that you otherwise might not be able to get," said Nill. "In a perfect world, we want somebody who's 6'4" and fast and skilled, but we know that's probably not going to happen.  That's probably in the top ten that that's going to happen.  But, we're going to get somebody whose got two of those three traits."

As for the position Detroit would like to fill with the 21st pick, Nill said they were more interested in getting the best player they can, regardless of the position.

"We're lucky.  We've got a lot of depth in the organization, so we're really just looking for the best player."

Asked whether or not their draftee would be given a chance to make the team out of training camp, Nill said there's virtually no chance.

"Very unlikely, very unlikely that that would happen.  It's a very big step."
