10 Teams That Need to Make a Trade Before the Deadline for Psychological Reasons

The trade deadline is a strange time.

In the last two years, the Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings made trades prior to the deadline that were vital to their respective Stanley Cup runs.

The Bruins added Rich Peverley from the Atlanta Thrashers (now doing business as the Winnipeg Jets) and Chris Kelly from the Ottawa Senators, and both role players made key contributions during the postseason.

The Kings were struggling to make the playoffs last year when they traded solid defenseman Jack Johnson to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jeff Carter. That acquisition seemed to unblock the Kings' offense as they not only made the playoffs, but they dominated in the postseason. Carter's goal scoring ability remains a vital factor for the Kings.
