Chinese basketball player Yi Jianlian hasn't played in the NBA since his stint with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2011-12 season, but he is reportedly close to returning to the league.

Lakers, Yi Reportedly in Contract Negotiations  Wednesday, Aug. 17 Marc Stein of ESPN reported the Lakers are "finalizing a one-year deal in the $8 million range" with the power forward.

Stein reported Tuesday the Los Angeles Lakers are in "advanced discussions" with the power forward about an NBA return. Reporter David Pick, citing a source, later reported Yi would sign with the Lakers for $1 million, though Chinese newspaper People's Daily, citing sources, reported the deal is for $1.14 million.

Yi Would Provide Lakers with Much-Needed Depth

As a 20-year-old in 2007, Yi was one of the most highly touted prospects in his draft class, and the Milwaukee Bucks selected him sixth overall. While the 2007 draft class wasn't very deep behind Kevin Durant, Al Horford and Mike Conley, the Bucks picked Yi before the likes of notable big men Joakim Noah and Marc Gasol.
