When talking about the best player in the NBA, the first thought to pop up in your mind is Kobe Bryant vs. LeBron James. Everyone has bought into this matchup, as it pits the supposed two best players in the league against each other. When discussing the MVP race Bryant and James' spots are presumably set in stone at the top of the list. Is there anyone else deserving? And even if there is, how on earth could they possibly surpass these two seemingly immortal superstars?

Enter Kevin Durant. Going into the 2006-07 college basketball season he was ranked as the number two recruit behind big man Greg Oden. He went on to become the first freshman to win the player of the year award in college basketball, and decided to take his game to the next level.
