Washington Wizards Weekly: Gilbert Arenas Fined for Faking an Injury and More

Today we start off with Gilbert Arenas being fined for faking an injury.

Wizards coach Flip Saunders has issued a fine to Gilbert Arenas after the guard told reporters he faked an injury Tuesday in order to help teammate Nick Young get extra minutes in a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks.
Arenas told reporters following the game that he had told Saunders he couldn’t play Tuesday so that Young, a fourth-year guard stuck to the bench for much of his Wizards’ tenure, could get the start. Young ended up with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

The ploy worked for Arenas, but revealing the hoax certainly didn’t help his eventual fate, though it’s unclear whether further punishment—such as a benching for Thursday’s preseason game against Milwaukee—will follow.

So now it is a struggle of ethics. Technically, you’re not supposed to be faking injuries. But is it OK to do it when it’s for the benefit of the team?
