Minnesota Timberwolves forward Corey Brewer scored 51 points in Friday's 112-110 win over the Houston Rockets, matching Kevin Love's franchise record for most points scored in one game, per the Timberwolves' official twitter account.
Brewer, who is still averaging just 12.2 points per game this season, became one of the more surprising 50-point scorers in recent memory, as he'd previously never topped 29 points in a game during his seven-year career.
Still, the honor for 2013-14's most surprising 50-point performance may belong to Toronto Raptors guard Terrence Ross, who scored 51 in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 25. Ross, a second-year wing, is averaging just 11 points per game this season, and he only has one other 25-point outing through the first 151 games of his career.
With the exception of Ross and Brewer, only Kevin Durant (twice), Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James have topped the 50-point mark this season. While that may not seem like much, only three players—Durant, Anthony, and Stephen Curry—accomplished the feat last season, and there weren't any repeat performances.
