"Talk to those who have mastered the craft [of blocking shots], and they'll tell you that is a science, one that can be studied and refined, but, as it turns out, rarely taught. -- Chris Ballard, from The Art of a Beautiful Game. Ballard, one of Sports Illustrated's NBA writers, writes about the demise of the dominant shot blocker in his book—we're talking about guys like Bill Russell, Alonzo Mourning, or the guy with the famous finger wag, Dikembe Mutombo. While the shot blocker may be a "disappearing breed," that's not to say that the NBA hasn't had its fair share of electrifying blocks this season. Kids may hang up posters of guys flying in from the foul line to dunk on some poor sucker, but the shot block isn't far behind on the scale of "Plays You Always Want to See Unless it Means Your Team Just Lost the Playoffs." Some rejections go a step beyond the normal "stop the other player from shooting" concept. That's what this list is for. Here's one writer's best stab at compiling the 10 Most "Drop Your Jaw and Say 'Oh No He Didn't" blocks of this NBA season.
