Originally the San Diego Rockets in 1967, the Rockets franchise has had a fairly successful run over the last 43 years, winning two NBA Championships and four conference titles despite the label of "Choke City." They endured the early 80s after the trade of Moses Malone, but jumped right back on the wagon, gaining consecutive first overall picks to select the players that would be known as the "Twin Towers," Akeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson. Next, in the 90s, with Rudy Tomjanovich leading the way as the coach and Olajuwon continuing his dominance, the Rockets won their two championships, first over the Knicks in a thrilling seven game series, and the second in a humiliating sweep of the Magic. Throughout their history, they have shown what an incredible impact that star players can have on a team. Moses Malone led the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981 and after his trade in 1982, the team slumped to a disastrous 14-68 record. Hakeem Olajuwon had a similar impact in his tenure with the Rockets.
