The Charlotte Hornets announced on Thursday that center Spencer Hawes underwent an MRI revealing a sprained MCL in his right knee.

Hawes Out for Game 6 vs. Miami Heat; Will Be Re-Evaluated in 1 Week

A news release through the Hornets' official website specified the circumstances of Hawes' status and outlook.
Following a huge 90-88 road victory on Wednesday, Charlotte took command of its opening-round series against Miami.
The Hornets have a chance to close out the Heat at home in Friday's Game 6, and Hawes' absence shouldn't impact that bid based on his minimal prior role. The 28-year-old averaged only 10.6 minutes over the first five games of the Miami series.
There's no denying Hawes' being out hurts Charlotte's depth in the frontcourt and robs the Hornets of a big man whose range stretches out to the three-point arc. However, rookie Frank Kaminsky can do similar things and can function at center or as a stretch 4.
