Atlanta Hawks point guard Shelvin Mack is reportedly on the block just ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

Mack a 'Safer' Point Guard Target for Jazz Thursday, Feb. 18 ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported the buzz on Utah's pursuit of Mack, which has come about as a potential alternative in the event it can't land Ty Lawson from the Houston Rockets.  

Stein also reported the Rockets and Jazz are discussing a swap involving Lawson for a package that includes Trey Burke.

Considering Lawson hasn't managed to eclipse Patrick Beverley as a starter in Houston and has had off-court issues, such as four DUI arrests, it makes sense Utah may be hesitant to take the risk.

But whether Mack would make any considerable impact with the Jazz is up for debate.

Mack has appeared in only 24 games for the Hawks this season and is averaging 3.9 points and 1.6 assists per contest. The 25-year-old is buried on Atlanta's depth chart, which features past All-Star Jeff Teague and gifted youngster Dennis Schroder.
