According to several sources, Atlanta Hawks’ guard Jamal Crawford is seeking a new contract with the team. An extension, actually. Crawford was coming off a stellar year for the Hawks, winning the Sixth Man of the Year award.
ESPN reports that Crawford asked for a new deal about three weeks ago. But with all the hype happening over shooting guard Joe Johnson, the 30-year-old Crawford was unable to have his deal focused.
Crawford is entering the final year of his contract, which will pay him $10 million. So, hence, he wants to play longer with an extended contract.
If the Hawks decide not to give an extension to Crawford, he will enter the 2011 NBA Free Agency and be one of the top free agents in the class. Crawford says that he wants to stay with the team for pretty much the remainder of his career.
Crawford was the key to the Hawks best record since about 15 years ago with a 53-29 mark. Along with that, Crawford had the best season of his 10-year career, averaging 18 points per game.
