Report: Dallas Mavericks PF Dirk Nowitzki Will Opt Out of His Contract

According to the press releases, Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki will opt out of his contract.

This means he will be an unrestricted free agent for the blockbuster 2010 NBA free agency period.

Even though all of this is happening, Mark Cuban still won't give up. He and the Mavs organization are still trying to negotiate a deal with the superstar.

There is still until July that the Mavs can make a contract extension, but with the deadline a little over a month away, it is most likely that Nowitzki will in fact be leaving Dallas for in a search of a new team.

But Mavericks' president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson won't give up.

He says that the Mavs are optimistic and confident that Dallas will make Dirk stay with the team.

Dallas could see Dirk Nowitzki with a different team fast, like what happened to Steve Nash in 2004 when he got snagged by the Phoenix Suns.

Donnie Nelson says it's impossible for him to imagine No. 41 in a different uniform.
